Dear Friends,
Normally I breeze through back-to-school season without a second thought, but I looked at my calendar this week and realized my first day of school is in two weeks. That SNUCK up on me so now I’m trying to get myself in gear to be a student again. If you’ve worked full time and been a student I welcome your (good) advice. I’m pretty confident it will be fine, but like anything it will be transition and I’ll have to keep myself on top of my assignments. The carefree evenings I’ve come to love will have to become productive. My mantra lately has been “I can do anything for two (+ a little) years”. One of the things I’ve always loved about school is being in lectures, so that’s something I’m really looking forward to. I’ve been on Georgetown campus several times just to walk around or go to a football game, it’s a very cool feeling to be there as a student now. I’m not just a stranger eating a bagel on a bench anymore. If I think about it too much I do freak myself out. I haven’t been in school for a few years so the fear of failing is there, but one of my friends very kindly reminded me that Georgetown cares deeply about their graduation rate and getting my money so they won’t let me fail. That was actually quite comforting. I’m looking forward to having a graduation this time since my undergrad graduation was done through a Youtube livestream (although my family did throw me a very amazing surprise graduation in our living room). To make myself a little less anxious about everything, I’ve come up with a list of things to do in the next few weeks to help me get in the headspace.
I’m embarrassed about how long it took to take my student ID photo ^ in my house. Apparently the IDs are all digital now.
Back to school shopping- Supplies: I’m a physical note taker so some new notebooks and pens are in order.
Back to school shopping- Outfit: I will be going straight from work to class so my first day of school outfit has to be work appropriate. I ordered this dress in two colors. We’ll see if either suits my vision. I might use this opportunity to get some shoes too.
Attend orientation: I’m taking a couple days off from work to attend orientation for both the school and the program. I’m definitely going to need a tour and look forward to maybe making a friend? I need to scope out a study spot in the library.
Meal prep: I’ll be honest, meal prepping and I aren’t the best of friends, but on days when I leave my house at 6:30a and don’t get home until 9:30p I’m going to need to eat more than just snacks I find in my desk drawer. I’m going to have to be more intentional about bringing food with me so I’m not a menace to be around all the time. I welcome any on-the-go meal ideas.
Looking at my reading list: One of my classes requires we read a book a week (12 total), so it’s time to scour all the library websites before I purchase anything. Most of them actually look pretty interesting so I’m hoping it won’t be a chore to keep up with the reading.
Deep clean my apartment: I think I’m going to try to take one room per day and give it a good scrub so I can start the school year with a clean space.
I wish a very happy school year to all who are heading back and a very happy fall to all. The cooler weather can’t come soon enough. As always have a slice for me 🍕 and enjoy this duo that I didn’t know we needed.
Loved this one! Good luck at school!!
