Dear Friends,
My family hasn’t all been together for a few years so this weekend we embarked on a family reunion trip to Portland, Maine. We wanted to choose a place where none of us had been, and it’s been great. As is only appropriate we went in search of pizza on Friday evening and were led to Flatbread, Co, a restaurant on the water in Casco Bay. I’m not completely sure what the difference between flatbread and pizza is but based on context clues here’s my best guess: flatbread is very thin crust, with less sauce and cheese than regular pizza. My google search informed me that flatbread is unleavened, and pizza crust uses yeast. Regardless, it covered the bases needed for pizza Friday.
It was pretty busy but somehow my dad got the hookup from a guy named Nick who got us a table on the patio. We started with a salad and ordered three pizzas.
Now this salad, the menu said a bowl would feed 6-8 people. When we got the bowl, I think it could have fed an entire football team. It was HUGE. But it was pretty good. My one complaint was that I would have liked a little more dressing.

We chose three pizzas. A standard pepperoni, a pesto margherita, and something call the coevolution which had kalamata olives, rosemary, red onions, goat cheese, fire roasted red peppers, mozzarella, parmesan, and garlic oil. They cut the pizza in strips, which I kind of liked because every piece has some crust to hold, rather than the random small squares where sometimes you get a middle piece with no crust. The crowd favorite seemed to be the coevolution. Consensus across the board was that the crust was great, but a few members of the group (dad and brothers) felt the pizzas needed more cheese. No one was surprised by this. The toppings over all really shined with the flavors and there was a good balance. There weren’t too many or too few toppings. As a cherry on top the service was great.

Naturally, dinner was followed by a walk down the street to the gelato shop. Our tour guide had told us that Portland was a good food city and the trip was started strong with this flatbread/pizza (and the bakery and sandwich shop we went to earlier in the day).
As always have a slice for me 🍕 and enjoy this song that has been prominent in our carride sing along sessions.
So happy for you guys that you are having a family vacation together! Fun!
